Ghosts of Internet Dating Past

Okay, so the other day I get a text from a number I don't recognize. It says "are you working?" I write the polite, "I'm sorry, I'm not sure who this is." They write, "is this Penelope?". I say, "who is this please?" The reply was, "Spencer."  Thanks to the technology of screen shots I can give you a play by play. I couldn't do the initial texts since it has my real name and my cover would be blown...

Commentary...he sent me an email a few weeks ago (which I promptly permanently deleted) and told me he was getting divorced (recall he is the tool that got married 5 months after we stopped dating...) I wasn't rude in my reply email, but I was cool.  Thoughts...he's looking for poonanny. He's white and I'm green in the texts. Notice his defensive tone.

p.s. in case you are wondering...from Urban Dictionary:

Commentary...Have to put this in context for you. In his email he sent a couple of weeks ago he said he realized he married a woman that he was trying to "save." I didn't ask from what (cuz I didn't really care).

Commentary...The Punisher™

Whutever. I did not reply...

When an ex husband is like herpes

John will not go away. Sunday afternoon I am in bed with a pounding headache. My cell rings and it is an 877 number. I answer. It is a bill collector calling to tell me that the account for the jet skis I co-signed with John is 2 months past due. Almost $1000 is owed. I have been monitoring my credit report a couple of times a year after my divorce.  The only thing we had in both names was our mortgage. We always kept our other things separate. He wanted to get new jet skis. When it came to credit time he needed me to co-sign (note to self: Do not cosign anything when the other person already has credit issues. HELLO. RMFF™!)

I calmly tell the bill collector that we have been divorced for 3 years. I let her know that in our divorce partition it states that he was required to refinance the jet skis within 6 months of our divorce and he has never done it. (Recall Phil the attorney. When I asked him about fighting the fact that he hadn't refinanced he said, "Baby, you need to pick your battles. You need to get this bum out of your life.") She sympathized as I told her I realized my name is on the account. She told me the bills were getting returned and the phone numbers on file were disconnected. I whipped out my trusty ipad and googled Pao's home address and phone number. I also found the phone number for the hospital where John works. I was able to rattle off his cell phone number from memory. I gave the bill collector all this info. She was really nice and said she would start with that info and call me back if she didn't get anywhere. We hang up and then...

THE PUNISHER™

I call his cell--the outgoing message is automated and I leave a calm but firm, "this is unacceptable" voicemail. I then call the hospital and ask for his extension. I leave the same message. I was on a roll. I call his best friend Dean's house. I had to look the number up on the glorious Internet. His wife answers the phone and tells me how she and the other wives think of me all the time (interesting, why didn't you ever call to check on me?). She tells me Dean is not home. I said I apologized for involving them, but John was very late on this bill and it was going to impact my credit. I hang up with her. Twenty minutes later, Dean calls me and tells me that John had called the creditor and paid the bill over the phone. Dean and I used to be very good friends. He asked how I was doing. I said "great and thanks" and hung up. (EW, he had his friend call me?)  I shouldn't have done it, but in my Punisher Induced Rage I emailed Annie. She replied and told me how she and John were in a fight because John wanted to claim the boys for his taxes when they lived with her all year and she and her husband were now paying for their housing at college. She also told me that John had given Pao a ring. It was weird. I don't have feelings for him, but I still felt queasy when I read it. Sulie told me she felt the same way.

Today I woke up to receive this email. Actually these 3 sentences were in the subject line with nothing in the email:

Subject: Re: Was already taken care of. Sorry for the inconvenience. Have always had this as priority.

What a dildo.

I knew I should have just ignored it but I couldn't! It ate at me! So I replied:

Thank you.

Yes, I have seen that you have always paid it on time. I have been monitoring it and it is always paid as agreed  It was alarming to get that call out of the blue telling me I was responsible and that there was no valid contact information for you.

I heard you are getting married. I hope this one works.

I know Oprah, Dr. Phil and anyone else that tells people what to do would have chastised me for what I wrote. I felt like I needed to let him know that I knew he was planning to get married again. In my heart I know the same thing will happen with him and Dao. Way back when, I told her to save my number for when she finds out he is cheating on her. It is her journey.

Love this quote. Not sure who came up with it. It has been Oprahinized.

Forgiveness is giving up the hope that the past could have been any different.

The Punisher™ at the hair salon

I'm doing it again...breaking up with a hairdresser. I always make 10:00 a.m. appointments so I will be the first client and there is no risk of her being behind. I get there today at 09:55 and I sit down and look at a magazine. I have a Christmas card with a Nordstrom's gift card for her. 10:00. Maybe it's bad traffic. 10:05. 10:10. I look at my watch dramatically. 10:15. She walks in. Doesn't say hello. Goes to her station and starts to blow dry her hair. At that point I am SMOKIN' PISSED. I pick up the card and slide it back into my purse. I say to the receptionist, "does she know I'm here?"  She says yes. I do the WHAT THE FUCK hand motion. She goes and whispers in my hairdresser's ear. It is now mutha fuckin' 10:20. She calls me back and tells me her blow dryer broke at home. I nod and look at her reflection in the mirror. She goes and mixes my color. She comes back and puts the color on while telling me she has another client coming in and it works better that we started late so I won't have the color on too long while she cuts the other client's hair. At this point I am scrolling through my friends and texting them for their hairdresser's numbers. I'm thinking about all the times I sit there waiting when I'm the first client. I hate the way I end up drenched when she washes my hair. I don't stay in bad relationships. Why should I stay in this?

I pay. It looks good but not good enough to return.  I smile and say, "Happy Holidays". I walk by the receptionist without making my next appointment.

The Punisher™ shall go elsewhere. Wonder what I'll get at Nordstrom's?

Punishing with Kindness

The Punisher™ made an appearance yesterday. Thanks to the wonders of a serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, she was kind. I turned on South Dale Mabry. You Tampa folk know this is a hellish road with stop and go traffic, narrow lanes and tons of accidents. I see a mom mobile pas me. It's a SUV with all the bells and whistles. A FSU license tag and FSU stickers on the back window. I notice the driver is a woman in her late 30's. She is staring at her phone and texting as she drives down the road. I can see a toddler in the baby seat in the back. Instantly, The Punisher™ comes out. I get next to her at the next light. She is still messing with her phone. I beep my horn. She looks at me and I make the motion for her to roll her window down.  She rolls her window down. I out my hand over my heart and said I was not trying to be rude, but I noticed she as texting and not watching the road. I said I bet she didn't even realize. I said it scared me particularly since her baby was ion the car. I reminded her of the possibly of a horrible accident. She thanked me. She smiled. We waved and went on.  Punishing with kindness. Who would have ever thunk it?

What If? Part 1

One of my favorite movies is Sliding Doors. If you haven't seen it, rent it. It beautifully illustrates how subtle changes in what you do on a typical day can change your life. Several posts ago I talked about "what ifs?" I have some really deep ones and some really shallow ones. Here's my first off the top of my head list:

What if...
  • I did cardio?
  • I never sold my red, 1974 convertible VW Bug?
  • I had sex with the guy named Kevin in high school, that had a huge schlong, instead of telling him no? (forgot your last name Kevin but, I remember your schlong).
  • I really read Moby Dick, instead of the Cliff Notes?
  • My Dad wouldn't have died so young?
  • I would have never opened the door when John showed up on my door step after I caught him in lie #1 of 5000+ lies?
  • Apple came out with one great ipod that did it all without coming out with a new one every 6 months? (that I inevitably buy).
  • I didn't give a second thought to mean people that I want to inflict The Punisher™ on?

I had to poke the hornet's nest...

Pube Guy has been bugging me all day...The Punisher™ came out in me. I sent him a message and he replied!:

Hmmm
I think the addage, "If you don't have anything nice to say, it's best not to say it all" applies here. Thanks for your input and happy searching.

I am really surprised they let you post the picture with your boxers pulled down and the pubes sticking out. Wouldn't you do better on adult friend finder?

Just wondering..

He got me--except I know adage has 1 d!

The Punisher™ out for a Saturday Stroll

So I've been stuck in the house since Thursday, sick, sleeping all day and feeling lousy. I decided to head out to the grocery. I was overwhelmed by all The Punisher™ opportunities. But the ones that needed punishing were adults!
  • Exhibit A: South Tampa snooty-petooty displaying her new baby in her fashionable strap on contraption. The baby looked to be 6 weeks old tops. Penelope may not have kids, but I was a peds nurse. Mrs. S. Tampa Mommy is talking to another one of her S. Tampa comrades. They are oblivious to poor Miss Baby. Her head is completely flopped back. It hurt to look at her. I had visions of my Mom doing impromptu childcare lessons at Publix when we were little, It was mortifying. She would show strangers how to support the neck and do inservices on the fontanelles. She felt the fact that she was a pediatric nurse, worked at the health department AND had 3 kids gave her full license to teach on the proper way to hold a baby. I struggled, I twitched but I held The Punisher™ at bay.
  • Exhibit B: In parking garage of Publix. I see one of those labradoodle looking dogs sitting in a SUV. I look closer--all the windows are up and the sunroof is closed. The Punisher™ is really on fire now. I write a note, "DOGS NEED AIR TOO!!!!" and slide in the rubber of the driver's side window. Mr. LabrapoodleDoodle doesn't even move (because he's probably oxygen deprived). I was going to go in and have the owners of the fancy Lexus SUV that are killing their dog paged, but I stopped myself. Sulie got reamed by  woman a few months ago when she ran into the store and left her dog in the car. She had the window cracked though. The Punisher™ hops in the racing blue Taurus and heads to Walgreens.
  • Exhibit C: The Walgreens experience was benign with no need for punishing. As I am slowly driving through the parking lot I see a shiny new Mercedes backing up towards me. I slammed on the brakes and honk my horn sure that the guy would stop. He didn't. I hurried up and put the Taurus into reverse. He missed me by inches. He wasn't leaving; he was still parking. There was a lady watching and she shook her head. I rolled down my window and waited for Mr. Mercedes. I might add that since I have been sick I have bathed, but my hair has gotten no attention, I mean NO attention. There I am all crack 'ho looking with my wild eyes in the blue Taurus. Mr. Mercedes is short and fat with that ruddy, grey colored drinker look. I said, "did you even look behind you when you backed up?", he says, "nice lady, yes I did", I said, "there is no way because you barely missed me and you kept backing up", "He said (in a more menacing tone with clenched fists as he walked towards my car, "I said, you're a nice lady, go have a nice day". (Okay, he was trying to use some fucked up reverse psychology on me) I had some psychology for him...I said, "yes, I am a nice lady, and you're a tool and I bet your's is little" (while holding up my hand to show small size), he then raised his fist and I laughed and rolled up my window.
Ahh, The Punisher's™ work is never done.

The Punisher™

44 always scared me. My Mom was 44 when my Father died. She was 44 when she had her first heart attack. I always thought 44 was so old. I was so mad that my Father was dead. I was so mad that my Mom was sick. I remember being mad that they waited so long to have us--my Mom was 33 and my Father 43 when I was born. Back then 44 was ancient. Now that is customary. Oprah has made the 40s and 50s fashionable. Sometimes I close my eyes and I can remember what it felt like being so pissed off when I was growing up. I will see familiar glimpses of what it must have been like for my Mom when I am out in the world. About a year ago I was in a dressing room trying on clothes. I heard a teen age girl treating her Mom like shit a couple of doors down. The Mom wearily said she was going out to get another size. I waited until she left and said out loud, "I used to treat my Mom like that when I was your age...now she's dead." I was really dramatic when I said the word "DEAD". All I heard was heavy breathing. The girl was probably too scared to say anything. I smiled and thought to myself, "I bet that brat will do the dishes for at least a week." My sister calls me "The Punisher™." I tend to speak my opinion when I see something I don't like. I was staying in a nice hotel in Palo Alto for work a few years ago. I was going into my room the same time a Dad and his son were going into their room next door. The son had bright read hair and looked like he was probably about 12. He was "f this and f that" to his Dad. The Dad looked miserable. It was awful. I got out the pad of paper and pen on the desk and wrote, "Dear Carrot Top. What I just saw was disgusting. You should be very embarrassed. Don't ever talk to your Father that way again. You will remember this after he is dead and gone and you will never be able to take it back and you will feel like SHIT. Signed, Your Loving Neighbor." I walked outside and shoved the note under the door. The Punisher™! I told Birch the story at our meeting the next morning. He choked on his breakfast as he laughed. He said, "Carrot Top is scarred for life!"

You know the old phrase "It takes a village to raise a child"? What if we all became The Punisher™ in our own communities? There is a comedy skit about Latinos that they will discipline each other's kids. It is funny, but true. I'm not saying to lay a hand on someone else's child, but how about not accepting disrespectful behavior to others?

I am almost 45. I am not my Mom. My blood pressure and cholesterol are managed. I don't smoke. Ironically I am the same weight she was when I used to call her fat (I think that is some kind of Mother/Daughter karma!) I don't have children of my own, but children of the world better watch out! The Punisher™ is ready to set them straight!
